Tambour Battant
Pop Culture education starts in the cribs
Founded in Toulouse in 2016 by sisters Mireille and Nathalie, Tambour Battant reinvents the traditional music box and rattles. Tired of syrupy, anonymous melodies, the duo set out to bring real character into the cradle: Mireille draws, Nathalie sews, and every piece is built around a music icon rendered as a gentle, instantly recognisable caricature — David Bowie remains the house favourite.
Made in France in small runs, from organic cotton printed with non-toxic, water-based inks. Every music box mechanism carries a 2-year guarantee and is repaired rather than replaced — durability built into a category usually made to be outgrown and discarded.
Why did étchéaz select Tambour Battant?
We love the idea of decoration for tiny accounts — objects that treat babies as an audience with taste, not just a market for pastel noise. Tambour Battant swaps the usual nursery clichés for real pop culture, real craftsmanship, and real durability, and that’s exactly the kind of quiet confidence we look for in the pieces we carry.
