Atelier The Map - Charlotte Bourrus

The narrative greenhouse where cities grow, a 360° journey

Charlotte Bourrus is a paper artist staging cities and countries in a unique multidimensional view. She crafts paper collage, accumulating them under glass globes, in a selection of around sixty cities and countries from around the world.

It takes Charlotte Bourrus one to two months to create a reference. Each of her creations is handmade in The Map studio in Bidart in south-west France. Around a hundred cut-out paper images are hung on piano strings and then arranged together in a glass dome. The result is a graphic, colorful, pop, joyful and unique universe, a vertical collage creating perspectives and a poetic universe. Each globe is unique.

Created in 2015, the globes revisit the collectible snow globe. A city we love and have left behind, the land of our childhood holidays, a moment in our lives or a journey we want to hang on to forever …  or simply for the beauty of the art piece.

Singapore, Switzerland, New York, Biarritz, Paris, Zermatt, each city is an interpretation, an artist’s appropriation of the space, a setting for subjective detail: each creation pushes the boundary of geographical representation, giving the streets, walked a thousand times or fantasized, a new light.

Available in four sizes, from 6 to 20 cm in diameter and 9 to 30 cm high.

Why did étchéaz select Charlotte Bourrus / The Map?

All it took for Etcheaz to be launched was for Charlotte to say ‘yes’ to working with our team. We couldn’t conceive of our label without being able to represent The Map studio and Charlotte’s poetic world under glass globe. So, she has a very special place in our heart and in our catalogue.

We love her interpretation of the territory, the superimposition of layers of cut-out elements, the anachronisms and unique touch, like a ‘cabinet de curiosité’. Charlotte embraces the world by recreating it. It’s an invitation to daydream. As you can see, Etcheaz is a big fan!

Madame Hubert

Surf and motorbike culture under the lead!

Madame Hubert is a duo of artists, Pauline & Yann, who set up their studio in 2015, born of their shared passion for nature, the ocean, surf, board and motorbike culture and the same artistic vision. Their work is graphic, detailed, realistic, exclusively in black and white with black felt pen and pencil, which allows a play of light and shadow to highlight volumes and textures. The drawings are scanned and printed on high-quality, eco-labelled art paper, for 30x40cm posters.

Madame Hubert brings out two collections a year, the first in spring/summer, which focuses on sunny days and the ocean. And the second in autumn, featuring skis, marmots and mountains.

Why did étchéaz select Madame Hubert?

We love the simplicity and originality of the monochrome illustrations. We’re fans of the four-handed work, the precision of the line, every detail of every object is present, nothing is left to chance. Each original work takes dozens of hours to complete, and even hundreds of hours for scale drawings. Etcheaz offers limited edition prints at low prices. If you are interested in originals, please contact us.

Toyboard ®

The indoor surfboard that makes you feel like you’re on the move!

The ToyBoard® is a shorter surfboard made from foam with a rounded underside. Above all, it’s a surfboard that can be used anywhere out of the water. It’s recommended for surfers who want to improve their take-off in bad weather or those who live too far from the waves, for sportspeople (who want to practise balance, sheathing and proprioception), yoga and Pilates sessions, and also for children, their games and adventures of all kinds.

ToyBoard® is the story of Thibault Tranchant, who lives with his family on a sailing boat. To please his 4-year-old nephew Jules, who was desperate to go surfing, Thibault set about making him a foam surfboard from an old mattress. It was a revelation for Jules, who spent hours on his board, and for Thibault, who decided to manufacture and market the ToyBoard®. The icing on the cake: Gold medal at the Concours Lépine 2016.

Why did étchéaz select ToyBoard?

At étchéaz, we liked the ToyBoard® story, and we also liked Thibault’s determination to achieve this result. Last but not least, we particularly appreciate the environmentally responsible manufacturing process, which is 100% made in France. Fun, efficient, attractive and comfortable, the ToyBoard® is an original and innovative concept for all the family. And we love the artistic collaborations that make it so unique.

Enjoy!

ZURI

Putting concrete at the heart of interior design!

Zuri was born in 2015 from Marie-Cerise Blanc’s passion for working with concrete. It’s a material that inspires her in its shapes and colours, and which she can experiment with ad infinitum. The style is uncluttered, elegant and authentic, and the colours are just right and modern. Each piece is handmade in small batches by the designer and her team – irregular, which is what gives it its charm. Each piece is unique and original.

“ZURI” in Basque means “for you”.

Why did étchéaz select Zuri?

We fell in love with the colour, the minimalism, the clean lines and the uniqueness. With Zuri, concrete becomes a noble material. Far from being an imposing material, Zuri manages to combine poetry and coloured concrete, power and softness. Designer Marie-Cerise has fun with the material, giving a quirky edge to objects of unbridled charm.

Not to mention the wink, Zuri – Zurich!

TAQUIN

Taquin, millions of ways to be unique

Taquin is a young company born from the meeting of a designer and a furniture publisher. Taquin works with artists to produce its collection of paintings printed on square wooden blocks made from 12mm-thick MDF. These independent pucks are carefully crafted to fit together and slide into the centre of a solid oak frame. The round orange puck is the key to your creation. Positioned wherever you like, it turns and locks your creation… until the next time.

Taquin bridges the gap between decoration and play, disrupting the codes of art. Here, we build, we disturb, we shake things up, we agitate, we are wise, not wise, orderly, disorderly and, above all, nothing is ever set in stone!

But what makes this object so fascinating is its probabilistic dimension. Every time you look at a Taquin, you are faced with a multitude of possibilities.

Why did étchéaz select Taquin?

We love that you can change the piece of art to suit your mood – it’s moving, modern, playful art whose centrepiece is a round graphic puck, the brand’s signature. Positioned wherever you like, this round puck turns and locks your creation… Well, until the next time, because you can change your Taquin as many times as you like !

TUCCA

The new high end brand reinventing the concept of the traditional beach towel

Tucca is born in response to one of the most common issues that arises while enjoying a beach or lakeside day: the discomfort caused by the wind blowing at your beach towel, making it nearly impossible to simply lay flat. Tucca thinks about comfort and how to stay closed to our beloved ones “without sand in between” – and why not connect them to create a bigger, more communal space?
Tucca offers a new beach experience that blends practicality with fashion and style… A carefully considered design that, as with any other clothes or accessory, really compliments you.

Fix your towel to the sand and forget about the wind. Just have Fun.

Designed with heart in Spain and manufactured in the north of Portugal, a community with more than a hundred years of experience producing towels. The manufacturing process is carried out ethically from start to finish and in fair working  conditions for the people who dedicate their time to this profession.fresh air, wide open space, freedom, beauty…

Why did étchéaz select TUCCA?

We love the innovative concept. Tucca  creates your space on the beach or lakeside, with style, color and designs. Elegance, luxuary, organic and sustainable.

The additional plus : of each order you make, the brand donates 5% entirely to “Surfrider” to protect our beaches and oceans.
